What Causes a Verruca?

The virus enters through a breach in the outer skin layers and if unchallenged by normal immune mechanisms it will enter the skin cells, allowing the virus to replicate.

It's very difficult to know where the virus that has affected your foot came from – there is an incubation period of up to 8 months and as they can be quite small and slow to expand is size, they are generally undetectable for quite some time.

How are Verrucae Treated?

In clinic we treat painful verrucae and address ways to manage at home until the virus regresses naturally.

We are happy to discuss treatment options with you which may include softening the area with tapes, acids or cryotherapy. For deeper lesions, curettage and excisions are sometimes performed to remove thicker areas of pathological skin.
